Scope of Works
Taziker needed a substantial temporary access system across the River Dee to support major repair works at the Bridge of Dee, where conventional ground access wasn’t available. The brief required two distinct access routes: a pedestrian route into the cofferdam for the workforce and a separate, much heavier-duty route capable of carrying tracked construction plant weighing up to 14 tonnes across the river channel. The project called for extensive engineering and pre-planning, including coordination with a marine contractor to arrange safe installation.
Solution
Floating Pontoon Hire supplied over 630m² of modular pontoon to the site, forming two integrated systems. A 2.5-metre-wide pedestrian walkway gave the workforce a clear route from the riverbank into the working area within the cofferdam. Alongside this, a 6-metre-wide, double-stacked floating plant bridge was engineered to carry machinery up to 14 tonnes, topped with two layers of timber bog mats laid in opposing directions to reinforce the deck and spread the load. Double-stacking the pontoon added buoyancy and rigidity, creating a stable crossing for tracked plant. Together, the two systems gave Taziker’s workforce and machinery reliable access to a working area that would otherwise have been unreachable. Floating Pontoon Hire worked with Keel Marine on the engineering and installation planning ahead of the first modules arriving onsite.
