Scope of Works
A demolition contractor needed a temporary floating access platform on the River Rea in Birmingham to support ongoing site works, with an estimated six-week hire period covering delivery, installation and removal. The job called for a double-stacked pontoon configuration to provide the buoyancy and stability required, staggered delivery and collection to manage onsite congestion, and close coordination between the FPH install crew and the contractor’s own lifting and launching operations throughout the build.
Solution
Floating Pontoon Hire supplied 480m² of pontoon in a double-stacked configuration, delivered to site over two staggered drops of approximately 240m² each to ease congestion. A crew carried out the installation over six days, starting with a full day of site inductions and pre-start requirements, followed by launch and assembly working alongside the contractor’s own team; who handled unloading, slinging and launching the pontoon sections onto the river. Installation continued over the following days, working in parallel with the client’s team to allow access for laying Filcor decking and boards on top of the floating platform.
