We were recently contracted to undertake a bridge survey in North Wales for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, the bridge in question carries a pipeline crossing the river Conwy which required a structural investigation.
The orginial enquiry was based on providing an inspection pontoon, access tower and safety boat for a couple of days of insepctions. However following a site visit with the client it was found that access to the bridge was limited and with the river Conwy being tidal actually accessing the river from the riverbank was going to prove difficult. However the flexibility and adpatability of our pontoon came to the rescue.
We were able to install a slipway of modular pontoon bridging the bank across the tidal plain and onto the river itself. The pontoon was anchored bank side and left free floating on its end to allow movement with the tides ensuring that access to the river was possible at all states of tide.
The bridge investigation itself was undertaken from a 5×5 metre pontoon with Combisafe edge protection on all exposed edges an outboard motor for manouverability and a scaffold tower which was installed by our in house PASMA trained operatives. We also provided one of our Pioner safety boats with a RYA qualified skipper throughout the duration of the works should the worst happen and someone require rescue.
