Our installation team were busy in Taunton, Somerset last week installing over 550 square meters of pontoon under Town Bridge on the River Tone. The Grade II listed Town Bridge carries the A3027 over the River Tone in the center of Taunton. Having originally been built in 1894 the bridge is now in need of extensive refurbishing works to the bridge structure, including concrete repairs, parapet repairs, new joints, waterproofing and painting of the steelwork and ornate cast iron parapets.
Our pontoon will be used by the main contractor Walters Group Ltd in order to allow access to the underside of the bridge to carry out the much-needed repairs.
The installation itself took our team a total of 3 days to complete, loading in the pontoons using HIAB mounted haulage from alongside the watercourse. At all times whilst working on the water our install crew were supported by a safety boat and crew also supplied by Floating Pontoon Hire.
We will continue to offer our support over the length of the work, returning to site to provide smaller work platforms, safety boats as well as the repositioning of the pontoon from North to South of the river.

Our in house photographer the incredibly talented Mark Lloyd was on hand to document the install and got some cracking photos in the process – here’s just a few of our favorites.
