Our install crews spent the day in Bognor Regis last week supplying and installing a 124 square metre pontoon allowing for bridge inspection and repair to a rail bridge crossing a small river.
Access to the river itself was very limited with heavy vegetation build up and pallisade fencing running along both river banks. Installing the pontoons manually simply wasn’t an answer. As a result of this poor access our only option was to deliver the equipment using a HIAB vehicle supplied by our haulage partners at Phil Bascombe Transport Ltd and lift the pontoons over the pallisade fencing and onto the river.
The pontoons were lifted from the vehciles’s bed using our custom made lifting brackets, in slabs measuring 7×2 metres over the fence and directly onto the water. From there our install team were able to gain access to the pontoons and commence build having opened a gap in the fence and cleared vegetation.
A pontoon walkway from the access point on the bank was assembled down to the bridge where a much larger platform was assembled allowing initial investigation and repair to be undertaken. The pontoon was installed with Combisafe edge protection on all exposed edges and installed by our CSCS accredited crew in a matter of just a few hours.
