One of the key benefits of our pontoon system is their versatility of both install and use. As standard we transport our pontoon in 7×2 metre slabs for ease and economy of transport. In a perfect world those slabs are then lifted straight onto the water and away we go. However, when such access isn’t possible we have the flexibility to break the pontoon modules down into individual modules and if needs be carry them by hand.
That’s exactly what happened in Arundel recently, we were approached by an existing client who required access to a rail bridge situated some way into boggy woodland which was essentially cut off from access by drainage ditches on all sides.
In order to gain access, we were able to transport the pontoons using 4×4’s and trailers across fields to the drainage ditch. Once at the ditch we were able to construct a double stacked pontoon walkway with edge protection which effectively bridged the ditch allowing access on foot to a narrow path through the woodland.
From the walkway to the rail bridge we had approximately a 50-meter walk along the narrow path, in order to get the pontoons to site. We broke the pontoons down into individual modules weighing just 10kg each. These modules were then carried the bridge location where they we then reassembled in location under the bridge to form a work platform from which our client could undertake their works.
In all we installed a total of 140 square metres of pontoon over a 2 day period. The pontoon proved so successful that a whole series of additional works were added to the original scope of works to make the most of the access.
