As far as jobs requiring some minerals go, painting pylons for a living has to be right up there (get it?)! The tallest pylon in the UK comes in at a whopping 190 metres couple that with the fact you’re working with 400,000 volts of electricity passing just inches away from your head.
The relevance of all of this on a blog about pontoons? Well what if the pylon that you’re painting is positioned in the middle of a reservoir? Then pontoons become relevant and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing over the last couple of weeks in Hertfordshire.
In order to provide access and also prevent any paint falling into the water we provided a 420 square metre work platform directly underneath the pylon for the duration of the works. The pontoon was then covered with tarpaulin to protect the pontoon and again ensure no paint could enter the water if spilled from above.
Works have now been completed and the pylon in question has been given a fresh lease of life. The client was delighted and we’re due to help them out with a number of other assets over water soon.
